The Sacrario militare dei Caduti Oltremare is a World War II memorial shrine in Bari, in the Apulia region of southern Italy, inaugurated on December 10, 1967 to a design by architects Arnaldo Tulzi and Giuseppe Triggiani. It holds the remains of 75,098 Italian soldiers killed overseas in North Africa, East Africa and the Balkans during both World Wars, as well as in Italy colonial wars, among them 29,051 identified individuals, 5,675 known but unidentified soldiers and 40,372 unknown soldiers, arranged across ten sectors representing different theaters and periods. Notable burials include eleven generals and admirals, among them General Giuseppe Tellera, the highest ranking Italian officer killed in action during the Second World War, along with 192 recipients of the Gold Medal of Military Valor and 140 Eritrean and Libyan Askari soldiers. The site also includes a museum illustrating Italy wars and military campaigns between 1882 and 1945, with uniforms, weapons and documents on display.
