The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, known as Sacre-Coeur, is a Catholic church and minor basilica in Paris dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It stands at the summit of the Montmartre hill, overlooking the entire city, and is the second most visited landmark in Paris after the Eiffel Tower. Architect Paul Abadie designed the building in a neo-Byzantine and Romanesque style, faced in travertine limestone that whitens with rain, crowned by an ovoid cupola 83.33 meters high. Construction ran from 1875 to 1914 and the basilica was formally consecrated in 1919.
