Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

Shanghai Hongqiao is one of the principal railway stations of Shanghai, China, forming part of the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub in Minhang District alongside Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Construction began on 20 July 2008 and the station opened on 1 July 2010, timed to the launch of the Shanghai to Nanjing intercity railway, with a main building 420 meters long, 200 meters wide, and 70 meters high that used about 80,000 tons of steel, twice the steel used in Beijing's National Stadium, across a total station area of roughly 1.3 million square meters. As a Top Class station it serves as the Shanghai terminus for several high speed lines including the Beijing to Shanghai and Shanghai to Hangzhou routes, handling around 210,000 passengers a day through connections to three Shanghai Metro lines, the adjoining airport, and bus services, and its rooftop photovoltaic system of 20,000 solar panels generating 6.68 megawatts has been described as the largest standalone integrated solar power project of its kind.
