The Castle of Acquafredda is a medieval fortification in Siliqua, in the province of South Sardinia, Italy, built in the twelfth or thirteenth century on a site already referenced in a 1215 papal bull. Count Ugolino della Gherardesca, who acquired the site in 1258, is traditionally credited as its builder; after his death control passed to Pisa and then, in 1324, to the Crown of Aragon. The castle stood abandoned from 1410 until King Victor Amadeus III purchased it in 1785, and recent archaeological excavations near the site have uncovered human skeletal remains that add to its record of medieval Sardinian political and military history.
