Stockholm City Hall

Stockholm City Hall is the seat of the municipal government of Stockholm, Sweden, standing on the island of Kungsholmen and designed by the architect Ragnar Ostberg in the National Romantic style with Romanesque revival elements. Built between 1911 and 1923 from nearly eight million red bricks and inaugurated on June 23, 1923, the building rises to 106 meters and is topped by a tower carrying the Three Crowns, Sweden's national symbol, reachable by lift or by a 365-step staircase. Its Golden Hall is lined with mosaics of more than 18 million tiles depicting scenes from Swedish history, made by the Berlin firm Puhl and Wagner, while its Blue Hall, despite the name built of plain red brick with straight walls and arcades, houses Scandinavia's largest organ, with 10,270 pipes. The Blue Hall is the venue for the annual Nobel Prize banquet, which has made the building one of Stockholm's most visited landmarks.
