Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's main international airport, opened in September 2006 to a design by the architect Helmut Jahn of Murphy/Jahn, whose passenger terminal is covered by a distinctive undulating glass and steel roof supported on a grid of tapering steel columns. At the time of its completion it was among the largest single-building airport terminals in the world, and its control tower, at roughly 132 meters, was for a time the tallest airport control tower anywhere. The airport's name, meaning Golden Land, was bestowed by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, referencing an ancient name once used for parts of Southeast Asia.
