The Tashkent Tower, also known as the Tashkent Television Tower, is a 375-metre freestanding tower in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, designed by the engineers Y.P. Semashko and I.N. Terziev-Tsarukov and completed in 1984, beginning operation in January 1985. Built on a vertical cantilevered steel frame, it ranked among the tallest towers in the world at its completion and remains the second-tallest structure in Central Asia. Its observation deck functions simultaneously as a public viewing platform, a radio and television transmission hub, a general communications facility and a hydrometeorological research station monitoring the region's weather. The tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers and remains one of the most recognizable structures in the Uzbek capital.
