The Dorchester

The Dorchester is a luxury hotel on Park Lane in London, overlooking Hyde Park, designed by the architect William Curtis Green and opened in 1931. The building was among the earliest large London hotels built with a reinforced concrete structural frame, an engineering choice that allowed larger uninterrupted interior spaces than traditional masonry construction, and its rooms were designed to be soundproofed against street noise, a notable amenity at the time. The hotel has long ranked among London's most prestigious addresses, and it underwent a major refurbishment in the 1990s while retaining its Art Deco interior character.
