The Peninsula Hong Kong

The Peninsula Hong Kong is a luxury hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, opened on December 11, 1928 as the flagship property of the Peninsula Hotels group, founded by the Kadoorie family with the stated aim of building the finest hotel east of Suez. The hotel is built in an Italianate style with an Edwardian and Second Empire influenced lobby, and it became internationally notable on December 25, 1941, when British colonial officials surrendered Hong Kong to invading Japanese forces there, after which it was renamed the Toa Hotel for the duration of the occupation. The hotel expanded in 1994 with the addition of a 30-story tower built while the original building remained in operation, and it underwent a 450 million Hong Kong dollar refurbishment beginning in 2012. Today it has around 300 rooms and is known for its fleet of Rolls-Royce cars finished in a shade known as Peninsula green.
