Tianjin Radio and Television Tower

The Tianjin Radio and Television Tower is a 415.2-metre communications tower in Tianjin, China, completed in 1991 at a reported construction cost of about 45 million dollars. It ranks among the tallest freestanding towers in the world, and roughly two-thirds of the way up its height it carries an observation pod of about 253 square meters of floor space, used largely to house communication equipment alongside public viewing areas. The tower serves primarily as a radio and television transmission facility for the city, reflecting Tianjin's growth as a major industrial and media center in the years following China's economic reforms. It is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers, the international association of major observation and telecommunication towers, and it remains one of the dominant features of the Tianjin skyline.
