Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge across the River Thames in London, built between 1886 and 1894 next to the Tower of London. Designed by architect Horace Jones with engineering by John Wolfe Barry, its two towers, connected by high level walkways, were built in a Victorian Gothic style meant to harmonize with the nearby Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. Its central bascules, originally raised by hydraulic power and converted to an electro hydraulic system in 1972, still open today to let tall ships pass, and it remains one of the most recognized landmarks in London.
