Turning Torso

Turning Torso is a neo-futurist tower in Malmo, Sweden, designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava and officially opened on August 27, 2005, combining commercial office space in its lower floors with rental apartments above. The 54-story tower rises about 190 meters and is built as nine stacked segments of five stories each, shaped like pentagons, that twist progressively as the building rises so that the topmost segment is rotated a full 90 degrees relative to the ground floor. It was the tallest building in the Nordic countries until Karlatornet surpassed it in September 2022, and it won the Gold Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2005 and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's 10 Year Award in 2015.
