Varina Farms

Varina Farms, also called Varina Plantation, is a former plantation on the James River in Henrico County, Virginia, about ten miles south of Richmond, founded around 1615 by John Rolfe, known for his marriage to Pocahontas. The property later passed to the Randolph family of Virginia and then, in 1825, to Pleasant Aiken, whose son Albert M. Aiken built the current brick mansion between 1853 and 1855 in the Classical Revival style, with a five bay common bond brick front, six over six sash windows, and an Ionic porch. The Stoneman family owned the estate from 1910, and it continued as a working private farm as late as 1977. In 2023 and 2024 Henrico County purchased the property, for 18.55 million dollars, for historic and environmental preservation.
