Vil.la Joana

Vil.la Joana is a masia, a traditional Catalan farmhouse, in Vallvidrera in the Sarria Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona, within the Collserola Natural Park, documented since the 16th century. The Miralles family turned it into a residential villa in the 19th century, and the Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer died there in 1902 while staying with the family. From 1920 to 1973 the building housed the Vilajoana School, a special education institution. The Barcelona city government later converted it into a museum, and after a refurbishment between 2014 and 2016 it reopened as a branch of the Barcelona City History Museum, with exhibitions on the house itself, the school and the connection between Verdaguer and the city.
