Villa Aldini

Villa Aldini is a former aristocratic Neoclassical mansion on a hilltop southwest of central Bologna, Italy, commissioned in 1811 by Antonio Aldini, a minister and plenipotentiary of Napoleon, to a design by the architect Giuseppe Nadi that incorporated the circular Romanesque shrine of Santa Maria del Monte. Construction was interrupted by the fall of Napoleon in 1816, by which time the sculptor Giacomo De Maria and the painter Felice Giani had already contributed pedimental sculpture and interior frescoes. After the property was auctioned in 1832, the architect Antonio Serra converted part of the building into a consecrated church in 1842, and the commune of Bologna refurbished it in 2022.
