Waldwic

Waldwic is a Carpenter Gothic plantation house and historic district on Alabama Highway 69 near Gallion in Hale County, Alabama, built as a modest farmhouse in 1840 for Robert Gracey and enlarged into its present Gothic Revival form in 1852 using designs adapted from William H. Ranlett's pattern books. The carpentry was executed by enslaved craftsmen Peter Lee and Joe Glasgow, and the house served as headquarters of a forced-labor farm; an 1860 census recorded 127 people enslaved there under Gracey's widow and her second husband, Willis Bocock. It is one of about twenty Gothic Revival houses surviving in Alabama and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
