Wappocomo (Romney, West Virginia)

Wappocomo is a late eighteenth-century Georgian mansion and farm overlooking the South Branch Potomac River north of Romney in Hampshire County, West Virginia, along present-day West Virginia Route 28 and the South Branch Valley Railroad. Its original section was built in 1774 using large weighted bricks that had served as ship's ballast for tobacco vessels on the James River before being shipped from England, and a stone addition, quarried from Mill Creek Mountain, was added in 1861. The farm has remained in the Parsons family into the twenty-first century, and the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad operates its main depot, Wappocomo Station, on the property.
