Ye Olde Rovers Return

Ye Olde Rovers Return was a timber-framed public house at 12 Shudehill in Manchester, England, built around 1306 as an outbuilding of the medieval mansion Withingreave Hall. Ownership passed after 1691 to Hulme's Charity, founded by the philanthropist William Hulme, until the property was sold at auction in 1908, and the pub was long claimed, with some dispute against the nearby Seven Stars inn, to be the oldest in Manchester. It was demolished in 1958 to make way for the Arndale Centre, but its name and reputed history inspired the fictional Rovers Return Inn at the center of the television series Coronation Street, which began broadcasting in 1960.
