Teatro Colon

The Teatro Colon stands in central Buenos Aires, Argentina, built after a lengthy and repeatedly interrupted construction process involving three successive architects and completed in 1908 as the city's principal opera house. Its eclectic style combines Italian Renaissance, French and Greek architectural influences across a lavish interior of marble, bronze and stained glass, and its horseshoe-shaped main auditorium is widely regarded by musicians and acousticians as among the finest concert halls in the world for acoustics. The building includes extensive underground workshop spaces for scenery, costumes and wigs, allowing the theatre to produce nearly all of its own productions in house. A multi-year restoration completed in 2010, timed to Argentina's bicentennial, renewed the building's acoustics, structure and decorative finishes.
