Engels-Haus

Cultural and Institutional Buildings

The Engels-Haus is a museum in Wuppertal, Germany, occupying the late baroque Berg house built in 1775 by Eberhard Haarmann in what was then Barmen, in the historic county of Berg. German philosopher and political theorist Friedrich Engels grew up in this house, though he was born nearby in a family residence later destroyed in the Second World War, and his father, Friedrich Engels senior, was himself born in the surviving building in 1796. The museum opened in 1970 to mark the hundred fiftieth anniversary of Engels's birth and drew visitors from across the communist and socialist world during the Cold War. It closed in 2016 for renovation and reopened on September 11, 2021 with a newly designed permanent exhibition on Engels's life and work, and is part of the wider Museum of Industrial Culture network. Has Building Type

House, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
