The Old Library at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, was built in stages between 1712 and 1732 to a Palladian design by Thomas Burgh. Its Long Room, originally roofed with a flat ceiling, was rebuilt with the barrel vault seen today between 1859 and 1861 under architects Thomas Newenham Deane and Benjamin Woodward once the college growing book collection had outgrown the original space. The Long Room now holds the library oldest books and displays the eighth century Book of Kells.
