Jorn Utzon's performing arts center on Bennelong Point, Sydney Harbour, won in a 1957 international competition and opened in 1973 after a stormy construction that cost Utzon the job in 1966. Its white shell vaults, finally built as segments of a single sphere, made it one of the most recognized buildings on Earth; it was World Heritage listed in 2007, while Utzon was still living.
