Bois-de-Coulonge is a park in Sillery, in Quebec City, Quebec, on the site of Spencer Wood, the former viceregal residence of the lieutenant governor of Quebec, upstream of the Plains of Abraham. The Province of Canada built the residence in 1854 to house the governor general; it burned down in 1856 and was rebuilt in 1862 in a castle like style measuring 56 metres in length, with a servants' wing and a winter garden. Earlier, in 1833, Henry Atkinson had bought the property and, with a gardener, laid out an English style garden on the grounds. The rebuilt residence burned down again on 21 February 1966, a fire that killed the lieutenant governor Paul Comtois, and Quebec has kept no official Government House since; the lieutenant governor now uses office and reception rooms in the Edifice Andre-Laurendeau. The estate was renamed Bois-de-Coulonge in 1950 and became a public park, passed to the National Capital Commission of Quebec in 1996.
