St Mark's Clocktower

Monuments, Towers and Commemorative Structures

St Mark's Clocktower is an early Renaissance building on the north side of the Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy, at the entrance to the Merceria. It comprises a tower containing the clock and lower buildings on each side, and adjoins the eastern end of the Procuratie Vecchie. Both the tower and the clock date from the last decade of the fifteenth century, though the clock mechanism has since been much altered. It was sited so the clock would be visible from the waters of the lagoon, announcing the wealth and glory of Venice to all who approached. The lower two floors of the tower form a monumental archway into the Merceria, the street that linked the city's political and religious centre with its commercial and financial centre. Today the clocktower is one of eleven venues managed by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. Tower, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
