The Ostankino Tower is a 540.1-metre television and radio tower in Moscow, Russia, designed by the engineer Nikolai Nikitin and completed in 1967 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the October Revolution. It held the record as the tallest freestanding structure in the world from 1967 until 1974 and remains the tallest structure in Europe today, ranking among the fifteen tallest towers on earth.
