The Zizkov Television Tower is a 216-metre transmitter tower built in Prague's Zizkov district between 1985 and 1992, designed by the architect Vaclav Aulicky with structural engineering by Jiri Kozak. Its unconventional form rises on three tapering steel tube pillars linked by nine pod-like capsules, an arrangement widely cited as an example of high-tech architecture and one of the most visually distinctive additions to Prague's historic skyline. The tower carries an enclosed observation deck near 93 meters, along with restaurants and, unusually, a single hotel room positioned partway up the structure, and it weighs roughly 11,800 tonnes. It was completed just as Czechoslovakia's post-communist transition was under way, and it remains in active use for broadcasting alongside its public observation and dining functions.
