The Bartlett School of Architecture is the architecture school of University College London (UCL), part of the wider Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, which traces its origins to a 1911 gift of more than 30,000 pounds from civil engineer and building contractor Sir Herbert Bartlett to fund a new building for UCLs School of Architecture, with the faculty formally founded in 1919. It has grown from an architecture school into the United Kingdoms largest and most multidisciplinary faculty of the built environment, today comprising a community of about 1,700 students and 400 staff working across architecture, design and related practices, and has been ranked first in the world for architecture and the built environment in the QS World University Rankings by subject.
