Deutsches Architekturmuseum

Also Known As DAM
Research, Advocacy and Exhibition Organizations

Germany's principal museum of architecture, on the Museumsufer in Frankfurt am Main. A 1912 neoclassical villa on the site was rebuilt from 1979 to 1984 by architect Oswald Mathias Ungers into a house-within-a-house exhibition space, described as elemental Platonic buildings within elemental Platonic buildings, and the new facility was inaugurated in 1984. The collection documents architectural history and the museum hosts contemporary exhibitions.

The renovation of the 1912 villa by Oswald Mathias Ungers ran 1979 to 1984, with the new facility inaugurated in 1984; a genuinely separate institutional founding date, if one exists apart from the building opening, is recorded as an open question in a later file.

Open Questions (1 open question)
In what year was the Deutsches Architekturmuseum founded as an institution, distinct from the 1979 to 1984 renovation and 1984 public opening of its building?

Sources agree the museum building, a renovated 1912 villa in Frankfurt am Main, was rebuilt from 1979 to 1984 by architect Oswald Mathias Ungers and inaugurated in 1984, but do not state whether the museum as an institution, its founding board, collection and charter, was established earlier, when the renovation began in 1979, or exactly at the 1984 opening.

What would resolve this A dated founding charter, or an institutional history published by the museum itself, distinguishing the institution own establishment from the building 1984 public opening.
