The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) is an umbrella body of affiliated regional institutes that promotes architectural design excellence in South Africa. Formed in 1996, it replaced the Institute of South African Architects, founded in 1927, together with six regional institutes covering the Border, Cape, Eastern Province, KwaZulu-Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal regions. Since 2010 SAIA has hosted a biennial national conference and exhibition, and it presents the Corobrik SAIA Awards, which have recognised excellence in South African architecture with Awards of Excellence since 1990 and Awards of Merit since 1999.
