Istana Negara (Malaysia)

Istana Negara was the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the King of Malaysia, used from Malaysian independence in 1957 until a newer palace opened in 2011. The building was originally constructed in the 1920s as the private mansion of a Chinese business magnate before being acquired by the state for royal use. It blends colonial-era and local Malay architectural elements and stands within extensive landscaped grounds in Kuala Lumpur. The name, meaning national palace in Malay, is shared with Indonesia's presidential palace in Jakarta, a separate and unrelated building.
