Villa Alari, Cernusco sul Naviglio

Villa Alari, also known as Villa Visconti di Saliceto, is a Rococo-style country villa in Cernusco sul Naviglio in the province of Milan, Lombardy, Italy. It was commissioned as a villa of delights by Giacinto Alari from the architect Giovanni Ruggeri, with construction running from 1703 to 1719 and the villa's stucco and fresco decoration, including mythological and allegorical scenes by Francesco Fabbrica and others, completed between 1720 and 1725. Archduke Ferdinand, the Austrian governor of the Duchy of Milan, used the villa between 1772 and 1776, and ownership passed to the Visconti di Saliceto family in 1831. In 1944 Countess Valentina Visconti bequeathed the villa to the Fatebenefratelli Hospital, which ran it as a psychiatric facility and nursing home before the municipality of Cernusco sul Naviglio took ownership in 2007.
