Golestan Palace, in Tehran, is the oldest surviving group of royal buildings in the city, developed principally under the Qajar dynasty from the late eighteenth century onward, although the citadel it stands on is older still. Its architecture combines Persian traditional forms and decorative tilework with European stylistic influences absorbed during the nineteenth century. The palace served as the seat of the Qajar royal court and later hosted ceremonies of the following Pahlavi era, including coronations. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 as an outstanding example of blended Persian and European architectural styles.
