Villa Spedalotto

Villa Spedalotto is a country residence at Bagheria, near Palermo in Sicily, standing on a hill surrounded by olive groves. It was conceived in 1783 by Don Barbaro Arezzo and built between 1784 and 1793 to a neoclassical design with Greek Revival influences by the architect Giovanni Emanuele Incardona, who had studied under Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia. While still under construction, in 1790, the villa was purchased by Don Onofrio Emanuele Paterno di Raddusa, Baron of Spedalotto and Gallitano, and it has remained associated with the Paterno di Spedalotto family since. Like other Bagherian villas of its era, it was traditionally occupied by the family only in spring and autumn. It survives today as a private home carrying national monument status.
