Dolmabahce Palace

Palaces and Aristocratic Residences

Dolmabahce Palace was built between 1843 and 1856 for Sultan Abdulmecid I on the European shore of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, replacing Topkapi Palace as the main administrative seat of the Ottoman Empire. It was designed by architects of the Balyan family in an eclectic style that blends Ottoman tradition with European Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical elements. Its Ceremonial Hall contains one of the largest crystal chandeliers in the world. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic, used the palace as a residence in his later years and died there in 1938; the clock in the room where he died is kept stopped at the time of his death.

Has Building Type

Palace, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
