Villa Doria Pamphilj

Palaces and Aristocratic Residences

Villa Doria Pamphilj is a Baroque villa and garden on the Gianicolo hill in Rome, built between 1645 and 1647 as a suburban retreat for Pamfilio Pamfili and expanded under his relative Pope Innocent X, with the gardens completed by 1653. The Bolognese sculptor Alessandro Algardi led the design, assisted by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi, with Carlo Rainaldi possibly contributing architectural work. Its centerpiece, the Casino del Bel Respiro, sits amid formal parterres, a secret garden, grottoes, fountains, and later English-style landscaped grounds. The city of Rome acquired the estate between 1965 and 1971 and it now operates as the largest public park in Rome, with the Casino open as a museum since 1957. Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
