Mon Repos is a neoclassical villa in the Palaiopolis forest south of Corfu City, Greece, built between 1828 and 1831 to a design by Colonel George Whitmore and the civil engineer J. Harper as a summer residence for Frederick Adam, the British Lord High Commissioner of the United States of the Ionian Islands, and his wife Diamantina Palatino. After Corfu united with Greece in 1864 the villa passed to King George I, who named it Mon Repos, and it remained a summer residence of the Greek royal family until King Constantine II left Greece in 1967; Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born there in 1921. Since 2001 the building has housed the Museum of Palaiopolis-Mon Repos, displaying nineteenth-century furnishings and archaeological finds from ancient Corfu.
