Racconigi Castle

Racconigi Castle is a palace and landscape park in Racconigi, in the Italian province of Cuneo, that served as the official residence of the Carignano branch of the House of Savoy. Originally built around the year 1000 and transformed in the 17th and 18th centuries, with Guarino Guarini reshaping the palace and Xavier Kurten later laying out its romantic park, it was the birthplace of Umberto II, Italy's last king, in 1904. The castle houses a family picture gallery of about 3,000 paintings and was inscribed by UNESCO in 1997 as one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy.
