Villa Empain

Villa Empain is an Art Deco house at 67 Avenue Franklin Roosevelt in Brussels, designed by the Swiss-Belgian architect Michel Polak and built between 1930 and 1934 for Baron Louis Empain, son of the industrialist Edouard Empain. Its polished granite facades and interior finishes of marble and bronze made it, at roughly 2,500 square meters, one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the city. After later use as the Soviet embassy and as offices for the broadcaster RTL, the villa fell into disrepair, but a restoration completed in 2010 by the architect Francis Metzger won the Europa Nostra Award the following year, and the building now operates as a cultural centre and exhibition space run by the Boghossian Foundation.
