Villa Mapelli Mozzi

Palaces and Aristocratic Residences

Villa Mapelli Mozzi is an eighteenth century neoclassical rural palace at Sottoriva di Locate Bergamasco, near Ponte San Pietro in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy, Italy. The property had come to the Mozzi family through the 1460 marriage of Giovanni Filippo Mozzi and Caterina Comenduno, and after a medieval monastery on the site fell into disrepair, Count Enrico Mozzi commissioned the present villa between 1770 and 1780 from the local architect Giovanni Moroni, a follower of Giuseppe Piermarini, in a Palladian neoclassical style inspired by the Royal Villa of Monza and Milan's Teatro alla Scala. The villa remains privately owned by the Mapelli Mozzi family, whose descendant Count Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi married Britain's Princess Beatrice, connecting the family to the British royal family. Its park is open to visitors, though the interior of the villa itself is not. Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
