Brancovenesc Architecture

Brancovenesc art, also called Brancovenesc style, the Wallachian Renaissance or the Romanian Renaissance, is an artistic style that developed under the rule of Prince Constantin Brancoveanu, voivode of the Principality of Wallachia from 1688 to 1714, an extremely wealthy aristocrat and builder of palaces and churches. Though it also found expression in painting and sculpture, Brancovenesc art was focused mainly on architecture, giving its name to one of the most distinctive regional building styles of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century Balkans.
