Catalan architect, 1852 to 1926, who developed an organic, structurally daring architecture all his own out of Gothic principles, hanging-chain models and ruled-surface geometry: Park Guell, Casa Batllo, Casa Mila and above all the Sagrada Familia, which he directed from 1883 until his death and to which he devoted his last years entirely. Seven of his works are World Heritage listed.
