Hoard's Dairyman Farm, just north of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, was purchased in 1899 by W. D. Hoard, a former governor of Wisconsin, who used it as a working laboratory to test dairy farming methods for his magazine, Hoard's Dairyman, including early promotion of alfalfa as dairy cattle feed.
