Brian Farm

Brian Farm is a Civil War era farmstead within Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, on roughly 12 acres owned from 1857 by Abraham Brian, a free Black farmer, whose property included a two-story dwelling near Cemetery Ridge and a smaller tenant house along the Emmitsburg Road. During the Battle of Gettysburg, Union troops posted around the Brian house and barn faced the advance of Confederate Mississippi troops under J. Johnston Pettigrew during Pickett's Charge, and the buildings were left riddled with bullet holes and broken windows; General Alexander Hays later used the house as a headquarters. The original farmhouse was demolished around 1950 and replaced with a one-story reproduction, and the farm's buildings, boundary wall and marker were designated contributing structures of the battlefield historic district in 2004.
