Castle Rock (Garrison, New York)

Residential Buildings

Castle Rock, also called the Osborn Castle, is a stone country house built in 1881 by architect J. Morgan Slade for Illinois Central Railroad president William H. Osborn on a hill above the Hudson River in Garrison, New York, in a castle-like design with a conical-roofed round tower, dormers and multiple porches. It became the summer residence of the Osborn family, including paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn, and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks of the Hudson Highlands, visible from West Point across the river. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, the estate was bought by a new private owner, George Carroll Whipple III, in 2021. Has Building Type

House, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
