Upper Shirley, Virginia

Residential Buildings

Upper Shirley is a historic plantation house west of Charles City in Charles City County, Virginia. It was created in 1866 when Hill Carter divided his family's Shirley Plantation estate between his sons; the original two-story, nearly square, stucco-covered brick dwelling was built between 1868 and 1870 by the firm of A. H. Marks and Bros. and enlarged in 1890. The house has a hipped roof and a Doric-columned porch, and its roughly nine-acre grounds were entered on the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1981 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The property is now home to Upper Shirley Vineyards. This description is adapted from Wikipedia contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0; changes were made. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

House, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the building-type enum value this building already carries, resolved to an architecture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The building-type fact itself stays on the building unchanged.
