Großer Speicher

The Großer Speicher was a historic patrician courtyard complex in the northwestern old town of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, its houses grouped around a square inner courtyard between the former streets of Rosengasse and Rotkreuzgasse. Dutch immigrant Franz de le Boe bought the property in 1585 and rebuilt it between 1587 and 1590 in the High Renaissance style, making it the earliest documented civic building in Frankfurt to adopt that style. The complex was altered in the 1860s, and its surviving remains were carefully demolished during redevelopment of the old town in the 1930s under plans to rebuild it elsewhere that never went ahead because of the Second World War. The former Federal Audit Office now occupies the site, and some architectural fragments survive in municipal depots.
