Malay houses are the vernacular dwellings of the Malays, an ethno-linguistic group inhabiting Sumatra, coastal Borneo and the Malay Peninsula, characterized by tropically suited roofs, harmonious proportions and decorative elements still valued culturally in the region. These wooden buildings require significant maintenance against tropical weather and termites, and traditional construction skills are gradually being lost in Malaysia as timber becomes scarcer, though such dwellings still survive in rural Indonesia and a few examples remain in Singapore, mainly on Pulau Ubin, alongside efforts to document and replicate the style in provincial pavilions at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.
