Post-and-plank

Post-and-plank, also known by names such as piece sur piece, corner post construction, standerbohlenbau and skiftesverk, is a method of building wooden structures with a traditional timber frame filled with horizontal plank or log infill. It is believed to be the predecessor of half-timber construction, known by its German name fachwerkbau, which instead fills its frame with wattle and daub, brick or stone, and was used from parts of Scandinavia to Switzerland to western Russia; though now relatively rare, two variant types are still found in parts of North America.
