Architects and master masons of the medieval period, roughly the fifth through the fifteenth century, spanning Romanesque and Gothic cathedral building and the guild-organized master builders who directed it. Belongs here: any architect whose active practice falls within this span in medieval Europe or Byzantium. Does not belong here: an architect of a non-Western tradition in the same centuries, better described as regional and traditional, or one whose active dates fall into the Renaissance.
