Treatises, Charters and Foundational Texts

Written or formally adopted texts that shaped architectural theory or practice: treatises from Vitruvius's De architectura through twentieth-century manifestos such as Towards a New Architecture, and internationally adopted charters and conventions such as the Athens Charter, the Venice Charter and the World Heritage Convention. Belongs here: any milestone whose subject is the writing, publication or formal adoption of a text that shaped how architecture is practiced, taught or protected. Does not belong here: the founding of an organization that later produces such texts, grouped under institutional, school and program foundings, even where the two events are closely related.
